Last chance to participate in Responsible Tourism Week!

Last chance to participate in Responsible Tourism Week
http://planeta.wikispaces.com/rtweek2010

We wrap up the formal week on Friday. You’re welcome to participate by posting a short message on Twitter with the hashtag #rtweek2010

Share an example of responsible tourism in your work and/or be generous and point the way to work you admire. We’ve had some great participation from ITBW partners and look forward to weaving together the examples of responsible travel and indigenous tourism.

Kind regards, Ron Mader

Alternative Travel Writing Class

Posted by deborahmclaren on October 27, 2008

Have you ever wanted to write about one of your unique travel experiences?
Are you know an avid traveler with stories to share? Would you like to get
published? Then take the 6-week Alternative Travel Writing Class at the
Loft. We meet every Thursday from 5-7.

Please let your friends know about the class.

Alternative Travel Writing
Instructor: Deborah McLaren
Class: M52-2, 6 Week Class, Fall 2008
Date(s): Thursdays, October 30–December 11 (no class November 27)
Time(s): 5:00–7:00 pm
Enrollment: Open

Learn what it takes to be an alternative travel writer, from pre-trip
research and note taking to selective observation. Discuss story ideas,
create structure for your story, and turn recollections into a draft
travel piece. Be prepared to write in class: choose a past trip or new
local destination for your topic; and bring notes, travel guidebooks,
photos, postcards, journals, promotion material, clippings, and any other
source materials. Be prepared to discuss ethics in travel writing as well
as various forms of “alternative travel,” such as ecotourism,
voluntourism, cross-cultural exchanges, or off-the-beaten-path. The class
is fast-paced, with lots of reporting, writing on firsthand experience,
and revision. Each student can expect to produce a draft article and a
query letter by the end of the course.
